heartlandnaturists: Despite the way the porn industry has…

heartlandnaturists:

Despite the way the porn industry has portrayed nudism, it is not an “adults only” activity.  It is not about sex, orgies, exhibitionism, or voyeurism.  Nudism has nothing whatsoever to do with sex. Nudism is about comfort, freedom, and acceptance of the nude human body.  It’s the belief that the human body is not inherently sexual or lewd.  It’s a mindset that allows people to separate their body from their sexual desires. That is why there are many happy couples and families that enjoy wholesome, family-friendly nudism. They seek out resorts and organizations that are affiliated with national and international organizations that promote wholesome nudism, such as the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) andThe Naturist Society (TNS). The Heartland Naturists of Kansas City are affiliated with The Naturist Society and we hold only family-friendly nudist events. We have many couples and families that attend our events because of our attitude toward wholesome nudism. If you have any questions, please ask.  We’d be happy to answer them! www.HeartlandNaturists.com

something that upsets me is how men can go around topless but women can’t, or that women can’t breast feed in public.. and their major reason ” OMG! you can’t do that breasts are sex organs” no their not. their use to feed infants! not for your pleasure.. that’s like saying cause a man or women can get aroused by their ear being nibble or their shoulders being stroked they should be covered and never show in the public eye

Kate: I think she looks good. Jessica: I do too. Kate: I really like this picture and I think part of the reason I do is because the girl in it looks different from the usual model types that we see in a lot of public nudity photos. Jessica: I agree.  This is pretty much my body type, and I do appreciate that someone thought she looked good enough to take her picture and that somebody else thought she looked good enough to upload it to Tumblr. Kate: We haven’t really talked about it yet, but now would be a good time to just state, for the record, that even though we do reblog a lot of pictures of girls that seem to conform to the mainstream standard of beauty, we don’t necessarily endorse that standard. Jessica: Definitely.  I think one thing that I learned after meeting you and being convinced to spend more time naked is that people just like to look at naked women.  I have received really positive reactions for the most part to my nudity and I am not skinny.

Naked Thoughts On Identity

Writing on my deck on a cool and cloudy morning.Writing on my deck on a cool and cloudy morning.

It’s a cold one this morning with the temperature sitting at eight degrees Celsius (that’s 46 F.) and the sky covered with pasty looking clouds that seem to be undecided about breaking up or building up. The forecast was for sunny skies and warm temperatures. Needles to say it makes me feel a bit cranky and disappointed. Regardless of the weather, it is a good time to ruminate on identity. And, as you can see, write outside. Canadians are tough when it comes to dealing with cold weather. As far as i am concerned, my identity is probably quite clear in terms of who people think I am. Yes, I am a naturist as the photos and the majority of the content of this blog site frequently show. And yes, I have had a career as a psychotherapist (among other paid activities) and an educator. From time to time, the Buddhist thoughts which have become part of who I am have also been on display, sometimes through images and other times through content. Not so well know is the fact that I am a parent of three adult children with a son and two daughters who are now married with children of their own. Of course the role of grandparent has helped fill out my identity though not as much as it could have been since I only have grandsons – no granddaughters. I am a writer (obviously) and a photographer (equally as obvious), skills which have made me comfortable with writing here on my blog site. I guess that you might say that I am stating the obvious, things that don’t really need saying about identity. After all, we all have roles in life from which we build our identities. Yet, I am, as you are, so much more than these roles. There are intangibles that have as much, if not more, in carving out who we are in comparison to every other human being. We are all unique though we usually believe that truth. As individuals in collectives, we lose our identity to the community. We believe what we are required to believe as members of our communities whether those communities are small such as skateboarders or nudists, or large such as church communities and corporate communities. The collective unconscious is a very powerful force that takes people to places and ways of being that don’t necessarily fit with an individual’s sense of self. As individuals we know how powerful groups are – political groups, activity groups, religious groups, etc. Still, there is yet something more vast that shapes us unknown to us, and completely beyond our control as thinking and doing human beings. We sometimes get hints of these things through our dreams, and through our unconscious responses to life, events, and others. What we think of as our identity, our sense and belief of who we are, is all provisional. If anything, we could say that we invent our identities in order to have some sort of tenuous foothold on life. For, when we look deep within and without, we get an almost horrifying glimpse of an unending cosmos, a formless chaos of shadows and light where there is no real separations; no I, no thou.

Auguri di ferragosto

Finalmente in vacanza! 🙂

Curvy model’s nude stance on sexualisation

Excerpt from article Of course the busy backdrop meant the glares and stares from rubbernecking residents at the models uncovered girl curves were totally understandable but when asked if anyone seemed overtly offended by her display of womanhood the model says “not a single one”. The portraits, snapped by New York based photographer JD Forte, depict the size 14 model in various states of undress from topless to fully nude. The former Melbournian says the project is intended to be a comment on gender inequality which Valdes says is still rampant in New York City even though it is commonly considered the epicentre of modern civilization. “A man can walk down the street with his chest seen and you wouldn’t blink an eye and say to your friends ‘Well that’s sacred and he should cover up his chest for his partner’. You don’t say that,” she says emphatically. “Women have been objectified and banned, shamed or made to feel like its taboo to show themselves because we are an item to be sexually desired and nothing more.” Read full article here

Coffee and Morning Sunshine

Time to have some coffee mixed with sunshine.Time to have some coffee mixed with sunshine.

I have returned from another road trip that took me and my wife to visit her brother in a nursing home where he suffers from Alzheimers, and my sister’s husband who has been taking treatment for some aggressive cancer conditions. It makes one appreciate just how lucky one is simply to be alive and relatively well. I am glad that we went on this road trip and plan on doing it again sometime next month. Until then, I will take time to garden, write, play and enjoy being with my beautiful wife. I do have things to do today other than just drink coffee and claim my share of the sun’s rays. Somewhere along the way I have raspberries to pick, green beans to pick and prepare for part of our supper, crab apples to clean off some more of the lower branches, and there is my writing that is demanding some of my attention. Sitting and drinking coffee allows time to think about some of the more important things in life such as why are people so afraid and so easily offended? We have so many of our own citizens in jails in Canada and the U.S.A. that it is embarrassing to say the least. Yet, we are convinced that we have barely begun with the job of putting all of the bad guys behind bars. Murder, assault, theft, rape, and other such crimes are serious offenses that we punish with jail time, our society is working hard to include drinking coffee au naturel in one’s own back yard, skinny dipping in any body of water not roped off with warning signage, or reading while naked in some grassy park setting, or even going for a nude hike in relative wilderness settings. For too many, the sight of a naked human body induces fear, panic, and visions of Satan running amok hell bent on raping every female in sight. The solution? Put all the naked people in jail where they can wait for their turn to enter the gates of Hell. Well, the truth is, our societies are indeed afraid. Self-awareness has been reduced to small quizzes on social media sites. The main messages coming out of our collective tell us to blame the strangers, to fear those who are different. To take comfort in the sameness of fundamentalism. We don’t realise that all the darkness out there is a projection, an unconscious projection of the stuff about ourselves that we would rather didn’t exist. Naked people are a threat simply because we can’t admit that we are naked under our clothing. So we hide and we punish others for our fear.

Modelling nude for artists as part of a self-acceptance process

Lilly_1Years ago  I started an informal figure drawing workshop to allow people to draw the human body, nude. Not from a strictly artistic approach… for drawing practice, of course, but also to practice the way we perceive the body in its many different forms. Unlike in art schools, where the models are screened, trained and paid, our models are volunteers, usually with no previous experience, and we rarely tell them how to pose. We let them find their own poses. The not-paying of the models was something that happened by accident (lack of funds), but what we discovered was that when someone poses for free, the energy is different from if it was a paid job, because they’re giving us something very precious and vulnerable – their body, and their nudity. Some people may talk themselves into doing it for the money, but when it’s for other reasons, it’s different. We get models who are scared to death and others who are rather happy exhibitionists, but we don’t criticize or overly praise. We let them explore and find their own peace and right movement within their bodies as they pose. Because many of our models are uncomfortable with their bodies and are challenging themselves to face up to a fear, some weeks, the model doesn’t show up. In that case, we just draw each other’s faces, hands or feet instead. Lilly_2One week when I hadn’t managed to confirm a model, the regular artists were disappointed, so I offered to sit for them, but fully clothed. That was fine with them, but then I started feeling uncomfortable that I couldn’t practice what I preached, and with a mixture of reluctance and frustration, I took off my clothes and continued posing, nude. It was an important moment for me, too, to break through this barrier, and I was grateful for the presence of those whose pencils scribbled peacefully across their papers, not visibly more or less impressed by me than anyone else they’d seen; yet obviously grateful to have another human body to sketch instead of the endless folds of clothing. The thing is, all human bodies are interesting! Some of the figure-drawing artists that come to our group have seen more nudes than a doctor, but their gaze remains one of impartial appreciation. I’m sure they have preferences, but the simple fact of being exposed to different bodies more often than most people makes them more accepting than those whose references are restricted to their spouse or the usual media images of the body. I could feel the difference it made for me to face up to this fear, and the dozens of models that posed for us almost all shared similar experiences. Some told me they felt they stood taller after posing nude, walked lighter and smiled back at themselves in the mirror. And by the end of a session, there is a warmth and closeness with the artists too… if they can look at our naked bodies and not laugh or criticize (the way we do!), then we can all learn to be more accepting of ourselves too. – Colette

Is the decline in topless sunbathing a backward step for feminism?:A dialogue between French film maker Agnès Poirier and writer Zoe Margolis. This from Margolis:

I think it has less to do with narcissism and vanity and is more about the impact of body-shaming and a sexist culture which is explicitly critical of female bodies. We need more, rather than less, nudity, I say!

No Shoes, No Shirt, Service

OCTPFAS_080814-8299Last time we went to Bryant Park, it looked like it might rain. Pour, in fact. And when we thought we might get rained out, we quickly called around to some restaurants in the area to see if any of them would be willing to take in a wet and bedraggled topless book club for lunch. A decent enough fallback, we thought. Well, in the end it didn’t rain, and if you scroll down far enough you can see how much fun we had outdoors in the park that day. (Even the arrival of a Fox News reporter wasn’t enough to ruin the afternoon.) But one of the restaurants that enthusiastically said they’d have welcomed us was Ayza Wine Bar. IMG_7013 Well, not being ones to pass up a good thing, we kept in touch, and this past week we took them up on it, gathering first in nearby Washington Square Park (photos from that part of the day to follow) and then walking the six blocks south to Ayza’s downtown location. And it was spectacular. Better than we could ever have expected. First of all, the staff was all welcoming and friendly and supportive and warm, and totally game to accommodate what had to be, for them, a rather unusual event. Second of all (though it hardly deserves to come anywhere but first on any list of good things), the food was absolutely delicious — spicy glazed chicken “lollipops,” savory dumplings, pizza spiked with black truffle, artichoke…and then the deserts started emerging, including chocolate truffles hand-delivered by charming waiters and chocolate fondue with all the trimmings. IMG_6966IMG_6999OCTPFAS_080814-8456IMG_7110IMG_7051 Third of all (and it hardly deserves to come third), we had the benefits of a private setting (such as the freedom to get fully naked if we wanted, and a couple of us did) while the giant plate-glass windows enabled us to see the sun, and the world going by on the street outside. Could people see us too? Judging by the occasional startled facial expressions, some of them did, though when we sent ambassadors outside to try looking in, we mostly saw reflections. You had to be angled just right to get an eyeful. But some passers-by happened to look at the right moment, and the variety of reactions (confusion, delight, more confusion, stern tugging away of boyfriends by the sleeve) was fun to behold. IMG_7030IMG_6909 To give just one example, this older woman came to the door to find out what was going on. “We’re the Outdoor Co-Ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society,” our emissary explained. “Well, I certainly appreciate it,” the visitor said with a big smile. IMG_7102 The afternoon doubled as a birthday celebration for one of our two photographers, and one of the waiters (who got into the spirit of things by going shirtless himself) delivered some fireworks to her table. IMG_7059 Did we get any reading in? Not a ton. But we did have several anthologies on hand from Rachel Kramer Bussel, and the editor herself there, joining in on the fun. Copies of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Hard Case Crime books also made an appearance. IMG_7082IMG_7084IMG_7104OCTPFAS_080814-8505 But this time was really about the food and the company and the venue and hoping not to cause any traffic accidents as drivers spied something like 20 women (and a guy or two) in rather less clothing than you normally see in a restaurant. Happily, we can report there were no six-car pileups. And Ayza was tremendous. We’re going to return for sure, maybe when it’s freezing out. Imagine people passing by outside in down parkas, when snow is coming down, and glancing in the windows and seeing this… IMG_7007IMG_6847IMG_6914IMG_7122OCTPFAS_080814-8370OCTPFAS_080814-8283IMG_7118IMG_7087IMG_6979OCTPFAS_080814-8310OCTPFAS_080814-8327OCTPFAS_080814-8280IMG_6939IMG_7067IMG_7071

FACEBOOK DID IT AGAIN! My page “The Nudism and Naturism…

FACEBOOK DID IT AGAIN! My page “The Nudism and Naturism Daily News” has been unpublished for a THIRD time, and hundreds of fine art painting images have been removed. This is apparently the work of a serial prude who keeps reporting the classic nude art as being “pornography”. The deletion has been appealed and we will see what happens. In the meantime, I need your help – please contact Facebook and politely ask them to reinstate the page and stop deleting images of fine art nudity, which is actually allowed under their terms of service. As always, thanks for your support.

The bottom line: Nudity is one of our last taboos – Independent.iehttp://www.independent.ie/life/the-bottom-line-nudity-is-one-of-our-last-taboos-30491346.html “Tendencies to automatically associate nudity with sexual behaviour cannot just be explained by the Catholic hierarchy’s lingering influence on public morality, according to Ciara Meehan, a history lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire, who specialises in the political and social history of modern Ireland. “This idea of the naked body and sin being connected is true to a certain extent, but it is too blanket a statement to make. When Victorian values were dying down in Britain, they held on in Ireland, and being dressed appropriately was a sign of proper living. ‘The idea of Victorian values really appealed to the Irish when we were setting up the Free State as they sat well with Catholic teachings. After the fall of the Catholic church’s domination, consumerism and the media became the dominant voice. “Nowadays (bashfulness about being naked) is probably more to do with the images projected by glossy magazines. Women are portrayed in those magazines as having slender figures and being flawless.” “For more women, their reluctance to strip off is shaped by having to conform to this kind of socially acceptable image.” – See more at: http://www.independent.ie/life/the-bottom-line-nudity-is-one-of-our-last-taboos-30491346.html#sthash.y2XJ0G6Y.dpuf

It might change for the better if most people are able to open there minds and see that naturism is natural and not sexual. If religious people say it’s against god ways but Adam and Eve started out as naturist. So it won’t be against god ways

Religious people are a non-issue in a large part of the world. Also, most non-USians consider the garden of Eden to be metaphorical (along with the second coming, the apocalypse, and a ton of other stuff) and do not believe that there are literally nudists in the Bible.

The Joy of Nudism: Life, Spirituality, Hope

Happy nude weekend!  I thought it would never get here – it has been a very long week!  Ugh!  I’m still riding high from my recent Nakation!  A week away with other like-minded, naked people who all value and love the nudist lifestyle reinforcing my true belief in nudism as a way of life.  As per my normal ritual of naked coffee while I blog to all of you, I am overcome with the joy of being a nudist!  We have great books like The Joy of Cooking, The Joy of Sex, The Joy of Woodworking, etc.  It’s time we have The Joy of Nudism!   I struggle and admittedly in a very personal entry to this blog of just how much life as a nudist means to me.  I began this blog as a means of sharing this wonderful lifestyle, with the added hopes of connecting with other nudists and even perhaps stumbling into a full-time, nudist employment opportunity for myself.  Many of those things have happened and still working on the others, but surprisingly, one thing that I finding myself BURSTING to share more and more – is the complete joy of being a nudist!

Prior to becoming a social nudist, I spent way too much of my life being stressed, and honestly, thinking negatively about a lot of things.  We get caught in that trap of looking for things that could go wrong istead of thinking “Hey, let’s just GO FOR IT!”  Evolving as a naturist, I began to view the world in a very positive light.  It helped me look to the future with anticipation rather than dread.  As a nudist, I am calmer, more patient, thoughtful, and considerate.  Much of this calmness came about through casting off textiles and wandering around naturist places and surrounding myself with fellow nudists.  Immediately, I found life to be more peaceful, relaxing, and joyful!  I’ve never thought of myself as depressed, but getting naked certainly brought about a more joyful me!  Indeed a totally new perspective on life!

It’s difficult not to be happy and joyous, when my body has the wonderful experience of nothing but sun, wind, and even rain touching it in my natural state.  However, clothed, my body feels complete sensory deprivation and confusion when I place clothes on it.  My skin and even deeper, my soul feels sad and even almost troubled.  Think of how it feels to experience all those joys, sun, wind, etc. and then BAM you place a t-shirt and pants on your person – you are no longer able to feel the sun, you are too warm, and you feel clothes touching and trapping / crushing your soul.  Each time when I’ve had a naked, natural experience, it gets worse / harder to put on clothes.  It takes longer and longer before my body feels “okay” accepting the inevitable “nuisance” of wearing clothes and suppressing my true identity.  It crushes the joy in me.  Conversely, I suppose non-nudists probably don’t appreciate this joy or have bodies that feel confused by the feeling of fabric tight around them, because they are accustomed to it.  That’s probably the number one reason that people who go out naked for the first time find the experience strange.  Their bodies aren’t hindered by the usual distractions, their brain registers the lack of what they know as “normal.”  Suddenly, they are alarmed – they are nude and vulnerable.  Yet, for the nudist, our bodies become alarmed when they have to be in a dressed state.  So much joy is lost “covering up” the most beautiful creations ever – the naked human body.

Life is so full of “restrictions.”  Honestly, what can be LESS restrictive than no clothes at all? Of course, unless you’ve retrained your mind, one’s own mind might “tell” you to wear something because being naked is wrong.  If that’s the case, you definitely need to retrain your thinking, because it is NOT wrong.  That is the awareness and self awakening I had when I began living as a nudist.  There is literally nothing “around or on” you.  No itching from fabric, no elastics, no buttons, no restrictions.  Naked, we can unmask our being and truly return to a place of innocence without the stresses and restrictions of life.  It’s easy to understand why many nudists connect more closely with their own spirituality.  The joy is insurmountable.

Many times, I have gone to my favorite naked spot in Vermont, The Ledges, and sit there in my nakedness over looking this vast, beautiful perspective of nature.  It’s an amazing spot and I always realize that “I am IN it” and “part of it.”  Nakedly, I am part of the heart beat of life.  Unmasked, inspiring, and my heart filled with complete expansiveness.  Connecting to nature this way makes me want to laugh, cry, dance, get wild, go crazy – to feel and share the joy.  As nudists, we can never be more than we are in nature, yet I believe we are better able to care for and connect with those we love.  Through the naturist lifestyle, I tend to think as spiritual nudists, we more easily let go of things like blame, judgement, gossip and accept life around us.  Perhaps, through this beautiful lifestyle without clothes, we find true grace.

Naked we resemble one another.  I think, naked, I can be no more than I am.  Yet, I am more.  I am a happier, kinder, and nicer person.  Being a nudist, I free myself from more than clothes – I free myself from a lot of negative restrictions that can be placed upon our souls.  I am naked and joyful.  I wish each and every one of you reading a naked and very joyful day!
