I think there are several different ‘Diary of a Teenage Nudist’ videos available online at this point.  I seem to recall one similarly titled, ‘My Daughter the Nudist’ or something similarly titled.  These first-person video blog or documentary testimonials are definitely worth sharing.

Nudity in sports is possible!  Actually, nudity would probably make quite a few sports more enjoyable, as long as the mosquitoes are kept away!

Here is a volleyball player “killin’ it”.

GoTopless celebrates 501c3 tax exemption status

LAS VEGAS, August 26 – The women’s rights organization GoTopless has just received 501c3 tax exemption status from the Internal Revenue Service, thereby making all donations to the organization tax deductible, according to a statement released by GoTopless this morning.

“This is wonderful news on top of the great turnout we had at our Go Topless Pride Parades and other events held in over 60 cities worldwide on Sunday,” said Nadine Gary, President of GoTopless. “August 24 was our 7th annual GoTopless Day, which was timed to honor Women’s Equality Day. There was a great turnout for our pride parades and other events, with thousands of men and women showing up to support our mission, so how appropriate this is that we have received our tax-exempt status the very same week! All contributions to GoTopless will now be tax deductible.”

She said the GoTopless mission is to achieve the right for women anywhere in the world to go topless legally in public wherever men have that right.
“With the federal government now granting us public charity status, it seems more and more ridiculous for certain states and municipalities to continue banning female toplessness,” Gary said.

Yet local laws forbidding it are still very common.
“For example, one of our activists, Sonoko Tagami, was cited for indecent exposure last weekend on Chicago’s North Lake Shore Drive even though her nipples were covered and the supposedly exposed breast was actually painted on,” Gary pointed out.
Gary said Tagami and GoTopless will fight the citation through the court system.
“The citation was unconstitutional,” Gary said. “Equal topless rights for women is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution under the 14th Amendment.”
In most cities. Chicago excepted, the police had to escort the bare chested women through the streets.
“In San Antonio we were surrounded by men with rifles on their shoulders, thinking that our peaceful demonstration was to force them to give their weapon back” said Michele Laforce, the local organizer.

“In Los Angeles conservative Christians were there to remind everyone on how showing our breast would take us to hell. Violence and threat were the answer to our genuine peaceful protest but they were a minority as the huge crowd we gathered in cities like New York and Vancouver were highly supportive and more and more women are now daring to join our topless parties.”

“Our goal is to make the public aware of the unconstitutionality of the current situation, eliminate the double standard and free women from thousands of years of sex related submission” Gary said. “Our new 501c3 tax-exempt status will be a big help in raising public awareness of this issue.”

The naturist trail: ‘Once you try it, there’s no going back’
Pat Gallagher, president of the Irish Naturist Association, and his wife, Mary, are among the few in Ireland willing to speak publicly about the lifestyle. They started off by accident, says PatYou might think that nudists would be fairly visible and easy to track down. Isn’t there a latent exhibitionism in casting your clothes to the wind and stepping out mother-naked into the sunshine? An out-and-proud statement of personal freedom? But when I set out to find them, it turns out that many Irish naturists are keen to keep their identities, if not their bodies, firmly under wraps, and at least some of them are as slippery as eels.
A prospective encounter with a secret group of nudists from north Co Antrim looks promising until it becomes clear that the price of meeting them was the surrender of my own clothes, in the interests of creating “a level playing field”.
“Go on: dare to bare,” they repeatedly urge me. When I decline, pleading a preference for private nudity – I have no problem leaping naked into the surf on a remote Donegal beach, and have done so, but I don’t want anyone else around to watch me do it – the trail suddenly goes cold.
Or perhaps the Antrim naturists simply got cold feet. It wouldn’t be surprising, given the punitive attitude towards nudity in the North. Last month, following the apprehension of two skinny-dippers who were caught cooling down in the sea in Holywood, Co Down, during a heatwave, the PSNI warned anyone else thinking of stripping off that they could end up with a criminal record and a place on the sex offenders register. It seems that the sight of a naked body, particularly if it is male, is still regarded as an affront to decency by many, carrying the power to shock, traumatise and corrupt the innocent. No wonder the nudists are lying low.
Then I hear about a man called Pat Gallagher, president of the Irish Naturist Association. Pat is one of the few nudists in Ireland who is willing to speak publicly about his preferred lifestyle, to put a face, indeed a whole body, to his name. He lives with his wife, Mary, in the green depths of Co Roscommon and he’s happy to meet and talk. “Great,” I say, “I’ll take a trip down to see you.” We arrange to meet outside a bar in a tiny village, because he says I’ll never find his house if he doesn’t show me the way.Country roads
Finding the village, let alone the rendezvous point at the bar, requires much confused driving up and down identical-looking country roads, criss-crossing the county borders between Leitrim and Roscommon, reversing to check signposts and staring at the “no service” message on my mobile, while trying – fruitlessly – to access Google maps.
When I finally get there, Pat is waiting patiently in his car by the side of the road. He is wearing his Irish Naturist Association T-shirt. “Keep close behind me,” he says. “It gets a bit wild and woolly on the way to the house.”He’s not wrong. We turn into a long lane skirting remote bogland, which turns into an even longer, grassier, bumpier lane, the tussocks grinding on the underside of the car, overgrown brambles slapping the windscreen. Not a single sign of human habitation to be seen for miles around, just the bog stretching away into the distance, and a field of buttercups shining yellow in the sun. There could be no better place for a naturist to live in peace with himself and the world around him.
When we arrive, Mary is ready with tea and biscuits on the patio and Missy the Labrador bounds up to say hello. The couple, who are now grandparents, have enjoyed going naked for almost all of their long married lives. Former city dwellers, the seclusion of their country home means that they and their like-minded friends can strip off and walk around unclothed all day, with no fear of prying eyes.
“We started off by accident, really,” says Pat. “We used to get the lend of a caravan near a beach in Wexford in early June and we always seemed to get a week of lovely weather. There were never many other people around. I suppose we just started to relax and to realise that the only reason we were wearing these pieces of clothing – bathing costumes, all wet and heavy and sticky with sand – was to suit other people.”
So you decided there and then to take them off? The couple nod, smiling at each other. “I always hated that feeling of sand in your togs and trying to get changed with a towel clamped around you,” says Mary. “It was great to let all that go.”
Later, they became members of the Irish Naturist Association and founder members of the Dublin-based Club Aquarius, which meets every month for a get-together at a swimming pool.
Mary remembers that she was three months pregnant when she attended her first nude event. Didn’t she feel strange or self-conscious? “No, not really, because you quickly see that every type of person is there: big and small, fat and thin, young and old. And then once you try it, there’s no going back.”
“It’s a personal thing,” says Pat. “A freedom that you enjoy in the proper surroundings – on a quiet beach, not in your local pub on a Saturday night.”
Eamonn, a friend of the Gallaghers from Club Aquarius (he doesn’t want to give his surname), says that, for him, getting naked is about getting back to nature, an activity he has relished since his earliest days.
“Naturists just want to go the beach and enjoy themselves and not bother anyone, put a windshield up and have a picnic. We’re always getting asked if the men get aroused, but that’s not an issue at all. It just never happens. It’s a natural situation, not a sexual situation.”Eamonn has a theory that naturists are healthier people than the majority clothed population, or “textiles” as they’re known in the lingo. “They’re just more relaxed as people, you know? None of that guilt around the body. You never hear of any teenage pregnancies, or anything like that. It’s a healthy pursuit.”

Naturism tolerated
While the INA identifies 23 Irish beaches where naturism is effectively tolerated, and no member of the association has ever been prosecuted, nude swimming or sunbathing in a public place remains illegal in Ireland. Ireland is the only European country not to have an official nudist beach specifically designated by any local authority or council.
“One of the reasons that the law takes an interest is that people say they are offended,” says Eamonn wearily. “So we are the only species on the face of the Earth to be offended by the sight of another member of that species? It’s just ridiculous.”
Pat has spent decades campaigning against the prohibition on nudity. He drags out two giant scrapbooks, filled with old letters and yellowing press cuttings that document the long struggle for recognition and at least one beach to officially call their own.
“A lot of people enjoy naturism but they don’t want to stand up and be counted,” he says. “I’m a hands-on person. It’s just a funny quirk in my personality: I won’t take anything on and not finish it. I do get burned out every now and then, but then it all kicks in again and I keep on going.”
The naturist movement in Ireland is gaining ground. Next month, the 34th International Naturist Congress, hosted by the INA and supported by Fáilte Ireland, will be held at Lough Allen Spa Hotel in Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim. It is a matter of some pride to Pat and his friends, because it is the first time that the congress has been held in Ireland. Nudity will be part of the proceedings, of course, but only after the meetings are over. The congress is effectively the naturist world’s global agm, and there is serious business to discuss, especially around nudist tourism, which is worth billions worldwide, especially in Spain, France, Portugal and Croatia.
I knew I wouldn’t be offended when I saw Pat naked, although I thought I might be embarrassed, unsure of where to look or what to say. But after a moment of adjustment, in which I register the presence of his nude body, it feels perfectly – surprisingly – normal.
Standing in his garden in the late summer sunshine, he seems part of the nature all around him: the bees, the fuchsia, the apple tree, the ripening blackberries. If anyone is out of place here, it’s me, overdressed for the weather and holding a smartphone with no signal, wondering how I’ll find my way home again.

Paradise Found

Let me point you at Canary Beck’s web presence.

Canary has been doing wonderful, wonderful things in SL for ages, but if you’re new to SL, or new to SLN, or a long-term reader of SLN or player of SL, then it’s worth reminding you of this colossus of the pixellated world.

For example, Canary acts in and directs theatrical performance in SL, most notably performances of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’. The latter is particularly interesting to us as it features nudity and deals with the discovery of sexuality, being based on ‘the fall from Eden’ and Adam & Eve sharing that apple.

But as with everything Canary does, it’s done with style and grace and with a professionalism that equals any real life theatrical production. It doesn’t become less artistic in pixellated form. You could argue that it adds another dimension to the activity of theatre going.

Photograph © The Basilique Performing Arts Theatre Company. Adam & Eve dancing in a performance of ‘Paradise Lost’

Indeed, Paradise Lost has proven to be so popular that it is back for a second season (ongoing between the beginning of August and the end of October).

You can check out The Basilique web site (the Basilique being the theatre which houses the productions) for ticket availability. Yes, you need to buy a ticket! Why? I’m guessing there needs to be some sort of limit to prevent a sim being laggy, and let’s face it, it’s such an ‘immersive’ (Canary’s own description) experience that there needs to be some sort of way in which to recoup costs (I imagine that there are costs involved in production). And, rather excitingly for me, it’s the act -as in real life- of making a commitment to go and see a performance, paying for it, planning your evening around that event. And it’s artistic endeavour, monetised in SL. Why shouldn’t those who put in their time and effort (just as with clothes, hair and skin designers) get paid for their work?

Originally, SLN publisher Howie Lamilton’s vision for his SL was to bring a ‘unique to SL’ music into SL and sell it exclusively in world, and build up a roster of like-minded artists who could produce their own work exclusively for SL. hence his ‘Second Life New Media Publishing Group’. His vision wasn’t for SLN at all, but a publication that highlighted SL’s artists’ work. A page on in world art production, for example. And had it grown legs, certainly features on the likes of Canary Beck’s work. For one reason or another that didn’t materialise and SLN was realised, partly because Howie is a RL naturist, partly because it was still a ‘naturist magazine’, ergo ‘an artistic outlet’ that partially fulfilled the role. Look at some of Harry & Diana’s photos for the magazine. While some are merely illustrative, others are highly artistic in their delivery, and it’s obvious that just because the subjects are pixels, the artistic thought going into them isn’t less than that if they were real life nude models.

And they aren’t alone. Many SL blogs feature terrific photography. The writing on many blogs is top notch. We are, in SL, a very artistic bunch, it would appear.

If you get the chance, try to catch a performance of the second season. And at least chase down the links to see what the almost limitless possibilities of SL arts production can look like.

New Dogpatch USA Owner Announces Plans To Open Nude Theme Park on Property:Finally, a reason for me to visit Arkansas:

Pelsor said he plans on turning the property into a theme park once more, but not the original Dogpatch theme park. Instead, he said he plans to launch the first-ever nude theme park near scenic Jasper, Ark.

“I was a huge fan of Dogpatch as a kid, but one of the problems of the original park, in my opinion, was that everybody was required to wear clothing. If you’re going to have a water park, people should be able to swim nude, as God intended,” Pelsor said.

Thank you very much for featuring the production, and for mentioning that it’s a ticketed event. Yes, the production cost over L$250,000 to produce – costs that went to purchasing animations, wardrobe, specialised avatars and all their skins and shapes, sets, the theatre venue, and of course parcel rental for the sim in which it lives. To save your readers from chasing down show dates and tickets – here is the marketplace listing:https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/157622

A nude photo in a gallery window

I found the below article on artnet. Isn’t it bizarre how much difference there is between perceiving a female or a male body? This has to change!!

Nude Photo in Gallery Window Gets a Rise Out of Neighbors

Cait Munro, Thursday, July 24, 2014

The photograph in question by Bek Andersen, in the window of Rivington Design House. Photo via Bowery Boogie

Lower East Side gallery Rivington Design House is in hot water with its neighbors over a photograph of a nude man displayed in its front window. Despite the fact that the image is not sexual or vulgar in any way, neighbors accused the gallerists of being unaware of or indifferent to the fact that many children pass by the Kenmare Street storefront every day.

The nude photo is the work of artist Bek Andersen, and is part of a show entitled “Clothed Female/Naked Male,” which seeks to shift the paradigm of nudity in art. “There is nothing pornographic or offensive happening in that photo,” Andersen told Gothamist. “It’s a portrait of a man. He is naked, but doing nothing indecent. We see naked women all the time in photos where they are highly sexualized and people don’t notice because they are desensitized.”

The backlash from community members only confirms Andersen’s point—that we are so accustomed to artistic nudity being limited to portrayals of women that we find it offensive when the male body is put on similar display.

Despite the wave of complaints, there are no reports that the work in question has been removed from the storefront. You can see the photographs, as well as the offended passersby, until August 15.

Between ‘Go Topless Day’ and ‘Topless Tuesday’

Go Topless Day fell yesterday, August 26th.  I have to say it’s more of a north American phenomenon than elsewhere, but of course we’re going to support equal rights for women, wherever it is in the world. The ‘Go Topless’ organisation claim it to be their ‘constitutional right’, not an argument the rest of the world can necessarily make, but we support our north American sisters in their campaign.

While ‘top free’ equality may seem like something unimportant -suddenly stripping off our bras in Asda/Walmart is an unlikely occurrence- there’s a deeper message, one of the little ways, even in an enlightened west, that women aren’t quite so equal as men.

In other parts of the world women are definitely regarded as second class citizens, or worse.

I’ve no idea if Pookes had anything planned to mark the day, but I note that she has been trying to do a regular ‘Topless Tuesday’ feature while in charge, so I thought I should try to keep that little meme going, with a slight difference…this week making it ‘Topless Monday’, the day between Go Topless Day and a normal Topless Tuesday.

I’m still getting back up to speed, and there’s nothing ‘new’ in the pipeline for Topless Tuesday shots, so you’ll forgive me in using old shots (albeit previously unpublished) from the archives.

Request for nude beach exposes rifts in outraged communities
The KwaZulu-Natal Naturist Association is pushing for a nudist beach resort close to Mpenjati Nature Reserve, between Trafalgar and Palm beaches. If the proposal is allowed, it would create South Africa’s second official nudist beach after the Western

Dear Nude Parents,

Dear Nude Parents,

Hello, I am one of you. With two children of my own, I know what many of you who are new to the life have thought and worried about. I know the anxiety you faced the first, and second, time you allowed your child to bare it all in front of strange, naked adults.
If you have a daughter, I can relate to the absurd feeling that it was worse for her.

Heck, I had the pleasure of being with two toddlers in the embarrassing stage of body discovery.

I know you may have questioned the wisdom in your decision, and felt selfish because this was essentially all for you.

The fear of some freak, or a “good Samaritan”, catching a glimpse of your child.

You’re not alone.

But you have to understand: that’s not how it is. And sometimes it sounds better from an empathetic parent.

It’s not selfish. Children love being naked.

I mean, does she look bothered?

The chances of someone trying to touch or take your child? Sadly, awareness is more prevalent in the nude community, and your child is at more risk when fully covered. ( As much as any child is covered nowadays. )

I know you’ve probably been told recreational nudity can only be sexual, and detrimental to a child.

But again, nay.

Studies have shown time and again that not only does it promote self esteem and hinder sexual activity, but it’s good for mental health. (I.E. mood, brain function, memory, etc.)

At the end of the day, you know your child, and you’d know if you were harming them.

So try not to feel like an awful parent, and remember the sunscreen.
Burned babies suck.

Back In The Sunshine In The City

Camping in the city.Camping in the city.

We have arrived at the campsite in our local city and we have just returned from a fourteen kilometre walk along the nature trails that follow the river that cuts through the city. The paths form a set walking courses called the Meewasin Trail, With the walk done, photos taken along the way downloaded onto the computer, and supper eaten (it’s my turn to do the dishes), I find that I have some time for posting here. Unlike previous visits here, this time we have decent Internet service.

As I have an add-a-room for my small RV, an R-Pod trailer, I have some privacy in the campground if I stay inside the add-a-room or the trailer. To wander outside of these narrow confines would be more than a risk, it would be very stupid. Since I have no desire to tangle with the law, I will limit myself.

Now, with those comments out of the way, I want to talk more about sharing a home with a spouse that is not a nudist. In spite of the fact that my wife is not a naturist as I am, she does not get in the way of my enjoying being skyclad. We have established boundaries for when she is in the house so that my nudity doesn’t overwhelm her, a very sensible thing to do when a non-nudist and a nudist share the same domicile. She has tried in the recent past, a number of times, to join me in naturist venues. Though she has no issue with nudity or with other naturists seeing her nude, she much prefers to be clothed. It then falls to being respectful of her choice as she is respectful of my choice. It’s not perfect for either of us, but it is the closest that it can get.

To expect and demand a perfect world on either side would only result in losses that are unthinkable. We love being together and doing things together too much. It is the real respect by not engaging in persuasive activities and pressures in order to convert the other than then becomes the cement to strengthen our bonds built over the course of the past 44 years. How do you manage this dynamic if that is where you find yourself?

Oh, tis Naked Reading Day, nearly missed it! The last one apparently; the last officiated byNude Reading Is Sexy at least.

Well this year I have just started reading New Life and New Civilizations: Exploring Star Trek Comics. As the name rather gives away, it’s a book about Star Trek comics, a collection of essays which pretty comprehensively examines all the various series there have been, from the sixties until now. I’m barely past the intro, but it has contributions by some of my favourite authors, and explores something I’m interested in, so I’m looking forward to it.

Paris, August 18, 2014

Mrs. Hidalgo,

First, allow me to congratulate you on your election as Mayor of the city of Paris. It is with great pleasure and interest that I noted your desire to make your city a “place of freedom, equality and parity.”

My name is Maryline Canin and I am France’s representative for the activist and non-violent organization, “GoTopless.”
Gotopless, an independent non-profit organization based in the United States, was established in 2007 under the guidance of spiritual leader, Rael, in order to promote gender equality. It is based on a simple premise: Wherever men are granted the right to be shirtless, women should have the same right to be topless, in the name of equality among all human beings. The Topless protests and demonstrations organized on International GoTopless Day that have taken place over the years have quickly gained a lot of support and, today, the event draws thousands of people each year on the Sunday closest to August 26. In fact, this year we will celebrate the 7th year anniversary of the event and “GoTopless Pride” parades are organized in over 60 cities worldwide.

In France, our first event was held in Paris in 2011 and it was obvious then that equality between women and men was nothing but an illusion in the Parisian capital.
That year, even before the approved protest begun, all six of the women who were still wearing their clothes and were getting ready to participate, were arrested, taken to the police station, and their right to freedom of movement and expression was literally taken away from them. Two hours later, they were released from the station and as they tried to reunite with the group they were unexpectedly surrounded once again by a callous police that acted gratuitously and whose sole intent was to prevent them from joining the rest of the group at the end of the march.

During our seven years of peaceful protests around the world, it is in Paris that we had the most misogynistic and disrespectful experience accompanied with unnecessary use of police force. In fact, complaints have been filed for false arrest, discrimination, and for restricting our freedom of movement and expression.

Equality between women and men must be applied in both the private and public sectors. And the projects you have outlined emphasize this. Your political resolve is undeniable and I would like to appeal to your sense of justice and equality by granting Parisian women the freedom to walk around topless in all public places where men are given this right.

It is currently not the case at the beach (Paris Plage) or at municipal pools where many signs warn Parisians to “not forget to wear their top and bottom” (see attached photo). Other municipal instructions threaten women with a fine of 38 euros if they wear anything indecent which includes going topless.

Is it right to invoke indecency simply to avoid addressing the laws that deal with gender equality? Women’s legs were once considered indecent in public, as was women’s vote! But gender equality has always prevailed.

We call for a true equality on our rights, one that respects the right for women to expose their breasts as men do. This is a fundamental right and no authority should have the right to dictate how women should behave or decide for them how they should dress, on the pretext that exposing their breasts would be indecent.
This change is unavoidable. We need only look at celebrities such as Miley Cyrus or Rihanna who often expose themselves topless, or at fashion shows that highlight women’s breasts, or at women who protest topless and seek gender equality around the world (I’m thinking about China!), or at women who travel around the world topless and post photos of their bare back on social networks to elude censorship (see attached pictures).

The New York community has already figured this out and, for many years now, has authorized women to be topless in public and requested that officers respect this right and not harass topless women on the streets. New York has dared. Why not Paris?

And for those who fear that such an event is an opportunity for men to show up in large groups, one needs not worry. Less than one hundred years ago, when men were allowed to go shirtless in public did women rush to see them? Not so. Then why should we assume that men would not be equally reasonable?
And even if there was an influx of men, all we need to do is remind ourselves of how Israeli Prime Minister, Golda Meir, reacted after a wave of rape incidents stormed her country. While the popular demand was to impose a curfew on women, her response was: “This is a problem that involves men, therefore, men are the ones who should be locked up.”

This year, our national event will be held in Lyon, on Sunday, Aug. 24. In addition to requesting a right, we have added a festive and awareness-raising feature by launching a “GoTopless Pride” parade celebrating the Pride of being a Woman and Pride of our nude breasts, just like the Gay Pride. If you recall, this Gay Pride March was made possible thanks to the relentless efforts of a minority that wanted to defend homosexuals’ rights.

In 2015, we plan on organizing a “GoTopless Pride” parade in the capital. With my American experience, I would be happy to discuss the preparations with you and the positive impact that such an event would have on the French capital. Should you agree to meet, I am available at your earliest convenience.

I hope that my letter will have caught your feminine and humanitarian attention as well as your sincere desire to work for the respect of gender equality. This project is everyone’s business if we want true female and male equality to finally become a palpable reality.

Respectfully yours,

Maryline Canin
GoTopless representative in France

A Naked Rainy and Cold Day

A rainy and cold day.A rainy and cold day.

It is late afternoon, rain has been falling most of the day, and the temperature hasn’t yet reached 10 degrees Celsius. Needless to say, I have had no ambition to go outside. For the past two days, I have been outside playing games, eating, visiting and taking photos of another gathering of the in-laws – well at least some of the many, many in-laws that make up my wife’s clan. Late this morning, our company (two couples) left to their respective homes. The house is quiet again.

Though the company has gone, I find myself hiding in my office where I write and read while naked as the day I was born. This is a normal place for me to be, and a normal way to be there. Since I have been clothed since their arrival at my home, it feels good to be free of clothing again.

A few days before their arrival, I had been working on my latest book in my office, in my natural state, when the neighbour who has caught me naked a few times already, came into the house looking for my wife who had gone out for a walk with another neighbour. I left my office in my natural state and answered her question without startling her with my nudity, It was as if, it was just a normal exchange of information. No comments about my naked state were made when the short conversation concluded. Having her answer, she thanked me and then left.

Now, that is what it is supposed to be like between nude and non-nude people – non-judgmental acceptance of each other.

Keep Calm And Get Naked – August Q & A

It’s almost the end of August!!!!  WHERE is the Summer going?  Aiyee!  The season needs to slow down!  As I sit here at my desk having my morning java and catching up on e-mail, I read several great e-mails from nudists following the blog.  I think today, I will blog a Q & A of some great questions / comments with my personal answers / observations following.  I REALLY appreciate all my readers, their input, and support of the blog!  THANK YOU.

1)  Nude Karen writes:  “I am a 23 YRO college nudist and I really enjoy reading your blog.  I think I have always been a naturist, but couldn’t really go nude until I came to college.  I grew up in a very wonderful family, but nudity was never an option in our house.  Generally speaking, I hate spending money on clothes and don’t really think we need so many of them.  It amazes me how much money the fashion industry spends promoting clothes that are uncomfortable, really aren’t flattering, and often times seem to sell sex to me more than serve any real purpose.  I suppose it’s a funny question to ask, but seeing how much you love the nudist lifestyle, do you own many clothes?”

Well, thank you for following my blog Karen!  It’s interesting to me, because our naturist beginnings are very similar.  I too grew up in a household where nudity was certainly not the norm.  It wasn’t necessarily frowned up on, but we were certainly rather modest so to speak.  I found time in my “growing up home” and out on the farm to relax naked, but like you, when I went to college, the clothes and a lot of negative feelings about myself came off – both literally and figuratively!  I believe that today, I am living the way we were made to live.  Clothes in my mind serve only one real purpose, and that is to protect our bodies when they actually need protection – from things such as cold, abrasion, injury, etc.  Where this is no risk of these things, it is much healthier physically and psychologically to allow our bodies to be unencumbered by the restraints of clothing.  I say, quit strangling your skin!  Feel and experience the world around you with your entire being – the way we are designed to experience it – nakedly!  You don’t mention if you are socially nude with others.  I was a slow starter – my largest regret in life is not being socially nude at a more early age.  I applaud you, because you sound very informed and comfortable in your skin!  It’s great to hear of people trying social nudity earlier in life!  Do I own many clothes?  Well, more than I need; I find that I HATE spending too much money on them; and when the opportunity arises to throw them out – I do GLADLY!

2)  Nude Chris writes:  “I live in the South where it can get really hot and humid during the Summer months and live in a house that does not have central air conditioning.  A couple years ago, while trying to fall asleep on a particularly humid evening, I decided to take off my pajamas and see if it was any cooler.  I did and eventually fell asleep.  Ever since then, I have slept nude and some times go nude in the house.  I know some people might find all of this weird.  Do you think I might be a nudist?  Your blog is so humble and you make going naked sound so normal and easy.  Thanks for sharing your naked life for those of us trying to decide if we are nudists too.”

While I have no “formal training” in blogging (if there is such a thing), I really enjoy sharing my very humble viewpoints on nudism and the lifestyle.  I appreciate your kind words and for reading.  What? You haven’t paid the dues, gone through the exhaustive training, taken the exams, been through the initiation process, and taken the oath of secrecy required to become a CERTIFIED nudist?  Ha – I’m just kidding you.  In my opinion, you’re just a human who has learned that it’s not such a bad thing to be a human.  It is, in fact, rather awesome to be unashamed and free of one’s clothes, and it’s easy to be happy for others when they are free of theirs.  You’re free to call yourself whatever you want, but yes, I think you are a nudist.  There are probably nudists of many degrees and levels, i.e. home nudist, vacation nudist, social nudist, etc.  I think it’s great that you have found how much nicer it is to sleep nude.  I suspect, if you were to try going naked with others, to visit a resort, hike naked, or any other numerous naked activities you’d discover how much you enjoy those too!  After 30+ years, I am ready to be a full-time nudist!  I say good for you and as you’ve read elsewhere in my blog, there are many nudist adventures and good times out there to be had.

3)  Nude Norman writes:  “I’m 42 YRO married male (wife thinks nudism is weird) and after reading your blog for several months, I decided to visit my first nudist resort this summer.  I had to drive 145 miles to get to the one closest to me.  It was worth the long drive and had a blast.  I’ve always liked being naked and thanks to much of what you write, I decided to give it a try!  I am curious, after all your years of being a nudist, have you ever experienced awkward or embarrassing moments?  Hope that’s not too personal of a question.  It was so natural (no pun intended) at the resort, I wondered if there are ever awkward moments.”

Hi Norman, I bet you met some really wonderful and nice people at the resort you visited!  Let me be either the first or among the first to congratulate you on trying social nudity!  I feel so humbled, that something I wrote, gave you confidence to visit a resort and on your own!  Kudos to you!  Probably, everyone, has embarrassing stories about segments of their lives – at one time or another – clothed, naked, or otherwise.  It’s not too personal of a question, but I cannot think of any time that I have felt embarrassed about being a nudist or while enjoying my chosen lifestyle.  I am only embarrassed for others, not myself.  Let me explain.  I have a time or two, been in a situation where someone (non-nudist) saw me nude and didn’t expect it.  Thus, I was only sorry how awkward it may have been for them.  They had no reason to be embarrassed for me, because it was natural and normal.  I have on a couple of occasions had interesting / rewarding experiences, where I have “bumped into” people at nudist resorts that I knew, but didn’t know they were nudists or them me – one being the person who cuts my hair!  It was rewarding, because it was just another one of those things we now share in common!  Often while getting my hair cut, we will compare notes on recent “Nakations” and destinations!  Believe it or not, I once use to be a fairly private, introverted, and shy person.  As a nudist, I am none of these things.  I am not ashamed of nudity nor embarrassed by it.  It’s the most natural thing in life!

4)  Nude Colin writes:  “I have been a nudist for about 15 years now.  I worked up the courage to visit a nudist resort and it was a liberating and life-changing experience.  To be quite honest, I felt so at home and the real me among these people, I felt like shedding tears of happiness.  Shortly thereafter, I visited a different club and couldn’t have felt more unwelcome.  I have three tasteful tattoos that are very meaningful to me and a couple of body piercings including a Prince Albert.  After paying my dues, finding a lovely spot around the pool, disrobing, and applying sunscreen, I was promptly asked to either remove my piercings or leave.  I left, but quite honestly I felt very bad about myself.  My ink work and piercings are simply expressions of who I am and done very tastefully.  Neither, were exhibited or meant to be sexual in in shape or manner, which I would have found highly inappropriate.  One of the many things I enjoy through your words and pictures, is the inclusiveness and acceptance your blog represents.  Thank you for recognizing that wholesome, social nudists do come in many ages, colors, shapes, sizes, sexes, with/without tattoos, and with/without body piercings.”

Colin, I appreciate you following the blog and your kind words.  Your musings strike me on so many different levels.  I cannot speak for one club or another nor would I endorse any policy; however, I do believe that most social nudists are tolerant and accepting.  We accept and do not discriminate based on gender, size, age, ethnicity, sexuality, etc.  Some people (through misconceptions) would believe that socializing naked would be strange, weird, immoral, etc.  Others, find tattoos, piercings, body hair removal, etc. equally strange.  Piercings and tattoos have not been allowed at a lot of nudist venues until recently, but their popularity has made them more commonplace and are now generally accepted, at least to a degree.  Change takes time, but inevitably occurs.  Personally, I try to live life with compassion, understanding, and acceptance.  I believe / feel that most nudists do.  I remember years ago (not sure if it is still in operation or not), there was a club who only accepted “smooth nudists and those males who were circumcised”.  Personally, that made me feel the same way you did when approached about your tattoos and piercings.  Just being “naked” makes some nervous and suspicious and as nudists we know we aren’t immoral or twisted people – we are living life naturally.  Piercings (particularly a Prince Albert and other intimate piercing varieties) make people nervous.  It’s quite simplistic for me, some nudists have piercings and tattoos, some do not.  Neither person is going to have sex in a wholesome, social nudist environment.  All too often, society sees naturists as hedonists.  This is, of course, not true.  We are, though, totally human and subject to human emotions, feelings, desires, and attractions.  For us to perceive someone with a nipple ring as being overtly sexual would be like considering a woman with makeup as offering herself for sex with anyone.  That’s just not right.  It’s BEHAVIOR that matters!  Sure, nudists have some protocols, rules, and customs, but there are also important things like good manners and understanding.

5) Naturist Aileen writes: “I LOVE your blog!  It makes me smile, happy, and often nod my head in agreement as a naturist of 25 years.  My husband and I both love being naturists and have no objections or regrets being proud AANR members.  Do you have any regrets or objections to nudism?  I suspect I know the answer, but just wondered.  In addition to being naked, what activities do you enjoy (something I always ask nudists when meeting them for the first time)?  Keep blogging!”

Hi Aileen!  We sound like kindred spirits!  I feel the same emotions, i.e. smiling, happiness, and nakedness, when I blog!  Congratulations on having a mate that equally enjoys the lifestyle.  I am also a proud AANR member!  Any objections?  Easy.  In TWO words:  ABSOLUTELY NOT!  Any regrets?  That I didn’t go socially nude sooner!  Life would have been that more wonderful and joyful if I had!  In addition to going naked, what else do I enjoy?  Well, I like to think I am a very diverse person!  I enjoy spending time with friends and family; cooking; good wine and oenology; country music (actually I like a little of most music!); reading on my Kindle; talking with / meeting other nudists; and pets!  And you know what, ALL of those things CAN be enjoyed naked!

I’d like to personally thank Karen, Chris, Norman, Colin, and Aileen providing me inspiration for today’s post!  I wish them and everyone a great naked weekend!  Stay nude and enjoy!

Wrongful arrest in Craiova, Romania during GoTopless Day Aug 24, 14

Below is the recount of Toma Maricescu, GoTopless leader for Romania of the wrongful arrest of GoTopless Day participants in Craiova.

We went at the Mayor of Craiova on Wednesday, to ask for the authorization to demonstrate for GoTopless Day. On Thursday they said they would call me Friday to let me know their decision.

I made sure to also ask them what alternative they offered in the case that our request was turned down. Their answers was : “if we don’t receive the authorization to demonstrate, you can still hold up banners in our hands, but YOU CAN NOT give flyers to the people; except if people come to you to ask for more information”

It is exactly what we did, respecting the authorities demand. We showed up and no one gave out any flyer and in fact, the police was already there, waiting to stop us before we could do anything.

On Friday I didn’t receive any answer but the Mayor’s office had sent notice to the police saying that they didn’t approve of the protest. The police showed us the notice as soon as we arrived in the park. They explained that we did not have the right to protest because another activity was already taking place there. (which was not true!)

Anyway, they also said that we would break Law Statue 61 if the women went topless. The law bans obscene behavior in public. But it was funny because prior to the protest, both girls had “see through shirts” and the boys, myself included, had women’s bras on.

Anyway, the Police force present was actually the Local Police (they are paid by the Mayor), and they were waiting for us with 2 police cars sent there especially for us, of course!

After speaking with them for a few minutes and trying to explain to them that we were not doing anything illegal, they decided to take us to the Local Police Station, where they kept us for about 2 hours, and gave us each a $130 ticket……one of the girls signed the citation….the rest of us did not.

The citation stated that we were topless while none of us was. They also wrote that we had a protest, which we did not. One of the girls was French and doesn’t understand Romanian. So, when she refused to sign the citation in an unknown language and asked to be put in touch with the French embassy, the police officer took me aside in the hallway and said to keep it simple and not to mention the French girl in the arrest. The French girl refused. The confirmation of the citation with the fine should arrive in 2 weeks they said.
We have pictures taken in the park to prove we were not topless as well as a video from when we arrived showing the police was there and we did not even had time to do any protest!

A depressing kind of summer…

Away from SL I’m a bit of a news/politics junkie. This was the reason we’ve previously tried to do ‘political’ issues of SLN (and subsequently not published them). SL is largely politics free, on one level. To me, many avatars are living a hedonistic, bucolic existence, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all, and we all know that there are good causes -all manner of ‘pink ribbon’ campaigns, wigs for kids at the Hair Fairs, etc- that we support with our purchases, and in that respect there will be certain small ‘p’ political acts going on. Our ‘politics’ are that we want an end to breast cancer. Humanitarian politics, in other words.

But SL generally rolls on as a kind of political-free zone.

japan sim

I’m stepping back into the editorial role a bit early, my hand forced by Pookes’ unfortunate holiday lack of wifi and inability to post.

But before I do, and turn my attention to the next full issue of SLN, I couldn’t not mention the rather depressing state of world affairs over the past summer, a real world, and real world politics, that make me yearn for the occasional hour away in (naturist reference coming up) our own virtual garden of Eden.

The downing of a Malaysian airline over the Ukraine, ongoing events in the Ukraine itself, continuing bloodshed between Israel & Gaza, ISIS and their cold-blooded murder of James Foley, Vladimir Putin’s sabre-rattling, the threat of an Ebola pandemic, an Icelandic volcano threatening to erupt and possibly disrupt flights over the north Atlantic (and further afield?) and today, reports of an earthquake in California…the list of a world in turmoil goes on.

OK, the last couple are natural phenomena that could happen at any time, over which we have zero control, so there’s little we can do in that respect, but the remainder are mile-posts in a summer where there’s been a headlong rush to undertake ever more vile acts for no great purpose. Yes, I understand that Israel will say it’s protecting itself, yes, I understand ISIS want an Islamic state, yes I understand Putin is more imperialist than communist, wishing to glue the bits of the former Soviet Union back together again but, really, is it worth the mounting pile of corpses? No. Never. We get to share a bit of time on earth together, and we should really be making more effort to ensure that’s the case before we can claim the bit we’ll have forever…a six foot long by two foot wide grave.

I know geo-politics are complex, and I’m no expert, but surely there has to be something better than this.

It was particularly depressing to hear James Foley’s murderer speak in a British accent. A London (or certainly S.E. English) accent. My town! To grow up in a multi-cultural city, to be educated (in all probability) in a British education system, to be given free medical care at the point of service via our much-maligned but still terrific NHS, National Health Service, and then throw it back in our faces with such hatred and poison? Where did he learn such hatred? Each time this jihadist needed medical care, it was there for him. Britain’s far from perfect, but we can certainly look at our health service as one of the best in the world for everyone, not just those with adequate insurance. When push comes to shove, British values are right there in the NHS. Care and compassion for all. It partly defines we Britons and the values we proudly hold. It’s sickening to think that someone who has grown up with those values and who, if born in Britain, was probably born in an NHS maternity unit, beginning his life under the care of the country of his birth, can throw that back in our faces and value life so lightly.

I’m exceptionally liberal in my outlook. Whether naturism leads me to liberalism, or a naturally liberal outlook led me to naturism, I’m not sure, but I do know that the mindset of people like James Foley’s killer directly threatens me and my values, not just as a naturist but as a woman. And I reject the ‘values’ projected by these zealots outright.

We’re surrounded by news events like this every day. Which is why escape to a relatively politics free zone like SL is sometimes welcome. I do like to hop around the grid (sometimes I even get dressed) to see what’s going on out there. And it’s appalling to find that there are now pockets of division even in SL, nominally Muslim or Islamic sims where notices are displayed that blatantly, idiotically declare that the deaths on 9/11 are somehow inferior to deaths in Gaza. They’re not. In death, there’s no hierarchy. Each death is the same as another. A void for the family left behind, with the same degrees of heartache and suffering. Please, don’t bring those shitty values into SL. Equally, I find groups labelling themselves as ‘Muslim bitches for white guys’. Again, grow up, both in terms of your respect for Muslim women and women in general. There are no ‘bitches’, of any colour or creed. They’re women. They’re mothers, sisters, daughters, the same as your mother, sister, daughter.

I’m old enough (as an avatar) to recall when a neo-Nazi group from Britain set up a sim, and began spreading messages of hate on the grid. I remember, too, that the sim was reported and the activities of those involved investigated until action was taken and the sim was closed.

I suppose my message is that if you see intolerant behaviour on any sim you have a duty to report it to the sim owners and if it’s the sim owners encouraging it, report them to Linden Labs. We need to stand together at times of real world divisions growing deeper to ensure that SL doesn’t, as it does in many aspects of its existence, mirror real life.

George Davis’ Naked Speech in Times Square

Body Freedom Activist George Davis Delivers Naked Speech in Times Square, NYC

On Wednesday, August 4th, I went to see “body freedom activist” George Davis deliver a naked speech in Times Square, NYC. Davis is a nudist from San Francisco, where he’s been protesting ever since supervisor Scott Wiener proposed and successfully attained a nudity ban in the city.

Before the nudity ban took effect in the winter of 2013, a small group of nudists used to congregate regularly within a neighborhood known as the Castro. Davis is one of them, and he’s long been part of the political scene there. He ran for mayor a few years ago and now this year he’s running for district supervisor (akin to city councilman as he says) to replace Wiener. Every time you’ve seen news about naked protests going on in San Francisco, Davis was probably there.

Many of you may recall the controversy over the San Francisco nudity ban. Scott Wiener was the driving force behind the ban, but it was just barely passed by the Board of Supervisors with a 6-5 vote. It was clear in the naturist community that this ban was unjustified and unnecessary. Most people blame Wiener as an ambitious, anti-nudity politician out to make a name for himself and take away a traditional freedom while he was at it.

As part of his activism and campaign, Davis looked for a place to do a political naked speech. He’s given speeches in San Francisco, but this was no longer option as they told him they’d now arrest him. So he approached a few other cities – Chicago, Portland (OR), Los Angeles, D.C. They either didn’t respond or told him he could do it as long as he kept his clothes on. Portland and NYC are the two cities that would give him permission to do it. He chose NYC!

I went to see him speak at 12 noon in front of the bleachers in Times Square. Both NYPD and the Times Square Alliance were present. George also knew of Andy Golub’s public body painting and invited Andy to speak as well. A few reporters showed up from the NY Post, NY Daily News and AP. Just a little after 12, he stripped down and gave his talk. People’s reactions seemed to a mix of confusion, disbelief and amusement.

I took video with my phone from a distance, so I’m sorry for the bad audio. You can read a written version of his speech here on his website (scroll to the very end).

George talked about why he believes in body freedom and the benefits of public nudity. Then Andy stepped in to give his view from an artist’s perspective. He also announced that he’d be doing a body painting demonstration a few blocks down. As kind of funny coincidence, Ton Dou was in town and had asked Andy to paint him. Ton is currently working on a naked documentary of sorts and is known in the nudist community for his nudist-themed videos and music.

Eventually we all left the bleachers and went down to find Andy body painting. To my surprise, George stayed naked, and NYPD had no problem with it. I suppose they already knew of his plans, but I was a little surprised they didn’t make him get dressed after his speech.

So we walked through Times Square, George still naked, and I had the entertainment of seeing people’s reactions to a fully nude man walking down the sidewalk. I heard a lot of, “OH MY GOD!” But those were the tourists. The New Yorkers didn’t bat an eye of course. 😉

We found Andy in the pedestrian plaza. He was happily painting with his headphones on, which blocked out the Times Square noise, as well as the voice of a man loudly reading Bible passages just in front of him. You can see a bit of this at the end of my video above.

Andy body painting Ton Dou. (And a cop stands just behind George.)

George and his friends and I hung around for a while with the crowd of onlookers. Since George was still naked, people assumed he was getting painted next, but there were no plans for that.

Ever since Andy started his naked body painting, there have been topfree women who put on some body paint and a headdress and do tourist photos for tips, just like the other Times Square characters. There were a few hanging around our area, and at some point George decided he wanted to get a photo with two of them. But I guess they’re not used to being outdone in the nudity sphere because when he approached, they ran away!

Once Andy was done painting, we took a group photo. A few of George’s friends stripped down for the photo, and I was topfree.

So ended an eventful afternoon!

In his speech, Andy mentioned how great NYC is for allowing this kind of freedom of expression, and I have to agree. The body painting was one thing, but for them to allow a guy to deliver a naked political speech, too, is pretty awesome.

In terms of George’s campaign and the San Francisco ban, I don’t think George is going to get elected and turn SF into the naked-friendly city it once was. He’s obviously very dedicated to his cause, but I don’t think people take him very seriously within the nudist community, nor in the SF community at large. At least he’s more peaceful than Gypsy Taub, another naked activist who’s been exacerbating rather than helping the situation.

Aside from his political campaigns, George has also been part of a lawsuit against San Francisco and SFPD for violating his and others’ freedom of speech. The suit was unsuccessful.

I do hope the nudity ban can someday be repealed, as there was really no justification for it.

This morning before I headed out to the Go Topless demo in Montreal, I heard Sharon Hyland on CHOM-FM — my fave radio station — talking briefly about it. Besides giving the where-when-why details, she also mentioned that she doesn’t know any females who want to bare their breasts in public. Well, if Sharon had […]

Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman crack up after seeing nudist on beach

Turtle Coast/Wild Coast

I was surprised….shocked…to spend part of my hiatus looking over the back pages of SLN to discover we’ve never really looked at Turtle Coast as a naturist destination.

I know we’ve had my policy of ‘genuine naturism’ in place, but quite why Wild Coast & Turtle Beach have never made the cut I’m not quite sure. Wild Coast was one of the first naturist locations I ever visited, it was crowded and it was non-sexual (in the main…I’m sure many avatars used it as a place to meet others before slipping off elsewhere…) with only a few cuddle pose balls around. In time it was largely supplanted by Turtle Beach, now the much more active sim of the two (both run by Kaiya Mumba) and Turtle is marginally more ‘in your face’ in terms of the availability of sex poses, but not so much that it should have been an issue for SLN’s policy. I can only suggest that it’s likely it’s been one of those locations (and we did include it in our list of slurls to naturist locations) that I was thinking ‘oh, everyone knows it’ and it has somehow become lost in terms of our reporting. I can only apologise for that.

Turtle is nearly always packed. I’ve logged in at 400am, not so much recently, but a while back when I’d have babies awake in the middle of the night, and you could still find activity going on there.

To right that wrong, I’ve asked Diane to go over there for photographs, utilising different models so that we can bring you a definitive report on Turtle (and Wild Coast), and I’m hoping she’ll come back later this week with a photo-essay we can give you on these long-standing and active SL naturist locations.turtle6_001b

A sign at the entrance makes it blatantly clear that Wild Coast/Turtle Coast’s rules fit easily within SLN’s policy of ‘genuine naturism’

Photos from Turtle’s revolving message board at the entrance capture a flavour of the sim.

In the meantime you can find a slurl to Turtle & Wild Coast on our links page.

“There is no law against being naked in public, but too often the police simply don’t know that. So you get people being threatened with arrest even for taking their clothes off in their own gardens. Then, when the authorities find that no offence has been committed, they think of something else to charge you with – like causing a public nuisance – and even if you are cleared, you end up with a big legal bill.”

Can we stop sexualizing womens breasts so much?

To everyone that’s continually telling women when in public with their baby breastfeeding them “can you please not do that”, or “Put that away or go somewhere else”. I’m going to need you to calm down and shut your mouth. If a woman needs to breastfeed her baby in public because its hungry or to comfort her baby. Let her. Its literally none of your business. She’s not doing anything sexual or anything to bother you at all. She’s just feeding her baby. I mean really if you’re that offended keep your comments to yourself and YOU go find somewhere else where you won’t be bothered.

Also to make another point. If a woman wants to walk around topless because she feels like it, or whatever her reason is. Let her. Guys do it all the time and no one really gives them any crap for it. Why should women being topless or breastfeeding, or what have you be considered taboo? I mean really think about it. The only reason so many people have a problem with it is because over centuries women have being heavily objectified, and sexualized. Well i have some news for you everyone. Women have breasts, they’re not going anywhere. Women are beautiful just as mean are beautiful. If a guy wants to walk around with his shirt off cool, and if a woman wants to walk around without a shirt or bra on, cool. Everyone just needs to relax.

For those who say well its weird, or its arousing, or tempting or what have you. Will you relax, calm down, and chill? Even if it is arousing or pleasing to your eye, keep your thoughts and your hands to yourself. They’re not inviting you to come touch them, or inviting you to go and bother them. On the contrary, its just a part of anatomy that you need to reconsider and re-evaluate. This isn’t me saying that breasts can’t be beautiful or visually appealing and pleasing. Far from it. I’m just saying that why do they always have to be viewed in a taboo, or even sexual manner? Why can’t they just be breasts and we all just go about playing video games and worry about something else?

The Necessity of Public Breastfeeding

I’ve heard that some people don’t think a woman has the right to breastfeed her baby in public.  These people offend me.  These people, in fact, make me kind of angry (especially the people who say a woman should be expected to put a cold, artificial, plastic bottle to her baby’s mouth instead of her […]

Editorial: August 23rd, 2014

I hadn’t remembered Pookes was on vacation, otherwise I’d have stepped back in last week. I’m guessing that the intention was to continue to post from her holiday in Croatia, but on arrival she’s found out there’s been no wifi wherever it is she’s staying. Yes, I know that we lived in a wired up world nowadays, but thankfully there are pockets of resistance where technology doesn’t go. Sometimes it’s nice to get away from it all and leave the technology behind, and I personally find it liberating to leave the house without a phone and be uncontactable for a couple of hours. It’s just me and the children, without distraction.

My vacation from the SLN editor’s chair has another two weeks to run, but in all honesty I’ve exhausted the avenues I was pursuing. Some of those, relating to how we develop SLN, will emerge in due course. There won’t be any huge obvious changes just yet. Others were blind alleys for me. My mind isn’t wired to ‘build’ anything in SL, and I found the process to be frustrating, no matter how often I tried to grasp the concept. So no SLN designed houses or dresses or anything else, I’m afraid.

So I was kind of ready to make the leap back into the grid. I have to say I’ve been largely good to my word and not checked the blogs, hunts or anything else regarding SL these past number of weeks, but I have kept an eye on SLN and can say that Pookes has been doing a great job until inadvertently disconnected from technology.

So with a good part of a free weekend to kill, and an itch that only SL will scratch, I’m going to jump back in here early and try to give you a couple of posts over the weekend.

While I support the idea of donations to worthy causes, I don’t always support the methods used to raise money. The Ice Bucket Challenge, to me, is symptomatic of the herd instinct of people living lives second hand through social media. ‘Oh, let’s throw iced water around each other and make videos of it!’

Seriously? You’re going to have a whole brain full of worthwhile memories by the time you’re old, aren’t you?

By all means raise money for Motor Neurone Disease, but I really don’t care about seeing your videos of it or, worse, having previously reputable news sources treat it as ‘news’.

That’s just me. You can do your own Ice Bucket challenge with an appropriate pose from Fashiowl. (L$0) if that’s your thing.

Skinny girl looking in the mirror

draw-my-body-2What amazes me is observing the way I perceive this picture.

There are so many layers, but above all,  I see a fragile young girl, she is so childlike –  I can just imagine her bedroom filled with stuffed animals…

I didn’t draw the entire image – there was also a picture of a larger girl in a mirror and  this was not her real reflection, but rather her perception of  herself.   This difference between perception and reality touches me deeply because it’s something I have struggled with for so long, it was a problem for me since I was a child.

My perception of things seemed to be dangerous and disturbing as a child but particularly when I was around fourteen years old. I saw what she sees. Now things have become less focused on the body, and more on the inner and the outer challenges in my life, and the inner and outer versions of them, which are not always the same.

When I first looked at the picture I see all that, but as I draw and paint it another perception emerges – the incredible fragility of her connection to herself.

I can’t seem to do justice to the  protruding bones, to give them the white light and the presence they have in her image… her back bone is exposed and I wonder what really is holding her up? I marvel at the complexity of the  back bone structure; the  light entwined with delicate shadows, like lattice-work.

She is stripped to the bone. She wears her hurt in her body, and I feel like I love her, every tiny little vulnerable inch of her…

She wears her vulnerability, but she does not see it, like all of us. I wonder if she could see it, would she hate herself  for being so weak? Vulnerability appears to be and is judged as weakness to so many people, myself included…

At times, as I paint, I feel like I just want to hold her and fill her up with the compassion I feel as I touch her with my pencil or brush. I am not an artist, I struggle with my mind’s idea of technique, but my need to just express and try to recreate what I see becomes stronger than my fears of inadequacy.

They finally disappear in my need to express what touches me…..Thank God for that!

Art or Porn: When Does Posting Nude Photos of a Toddler Cross the Line? | TIME http://time.com/3149432/porn-art-when-posting-nude-toddler-photos-cross-line/

“Neumann happens to be an award-winning fine art photographer with commercial clients like Reebok and Visa. But you wouldn’t necessarily have that context if you were to stumble upon his photos online somewhere for the first time. Pictures like the one of his daughter sitting between his legs in a bathtub might trigger a twinge of discomfort for the candidness and intimacy they capture. It’s a beautiful image, but does it belong in a public venue frequented by perverts and prudes alike? Here’s where I land: However uncomfortable a given photo may make me feel, I would be even less comfortable telling someone they can’t post it.”

Everyone has rolls when they bend over. Everyone. Lets just get this out of the way right off the bat. In the last few months, I’ve had over 30 women ranging from rail thin to extra large naked in my bed and I would routinely ask them to hug their knees. You won’t believe this… ALL OF THEM HAD TUMMY ROLLS. Not one was exempt. Even my super fabulous professional model 6 foot tall and some amazing Katie had rolls. The stomach pictures turned into some of my favorite images from the project… so quit thinking they’re bad, and try accepting (dare I say embracing?) yours!

When people say “you’re gorgeous”, believe them. I tend not to, and it’s a cryin’ shame. When people genuinely compliment you, it’s because they really see it. Try to not dismiss their perspective as wrong and assume that you know better. They see all of you. We see our flaws. Believe them.

“Arm flab is embarrassing.” No its not, go fuck yourself. No, not you. The people who tell us that, silly.

You’re not stunning despite your body. You’re stunning because of your body. There is a distinct difference. I grew up in a culture that would deem “unattractive” women as “special spirits”. A degrading categorization that implied that the only thing worthwhile was whatever was inside. Well, yeah. We are all much much more than our bodies, but our bodies are a beautiful part of us too. Beauty comes from the inside AND the outside.  I am of the firm belief that every person is beautiful, and so this leaves the inside to be the part that is the most telling when it comes to true “beauty”.

A guy can pick you up off your feet, and it won’t break his back.  “Wait, whaaaaaa Jes? You’re full of shit.” Nope. This just happened to me for the first time in… six years? I’m considerably heavier than I was 6 years ago (like… 70 pounds heavier) and so when I ran up to my friend Eric for a hug and he picked me up with my heels in the air… it left me breathless. I had forgotten that it was possible; I had accepted a life void of being lifted. So exhilarating. Eric didn’t suffer any injuries and walked away unscathed.

You don’t need to exercise every day in order to feel better about yourself. Many believe that someone who’s fat needs to exercise as much as possible in order to prove that they’re committed to becoming “less fat”. As if accepting one’s body as is would be a sin, and that’s just silly. Yes, exercising has wonderful physical and mental benefits, but you don’t owe it to anyone else to make an effort to change your body unless you wanna. You do not have to alter yourself to be okay. Period.

You’re allowed to fall in love with yourself. I promise. This will be the scariest thing you will ever do, and that’s okay. It will also be the most amazing (albeit super gradual) experience you will ever have. It doesn’t make you narcissistic. It doesn’t make you vain. It is liberating in every form of the word.

It’s also okay to have days where you don’t love yourself. Read this. No really. Read it. And then realize that we’ve grown up learning and internalizing that we are not okay our entire life. For me, that’s 26 years of self-hate indoctrination and brainwashing.  It’s going to take a lot longer than you think to reverse this thinking, and it’s definitely not going to happen overnight. Allow yourself to have “weak” days. Cry, mourn, sob, yell, throw things. Whichever. Then get up, brush yourself off, give the media the finger, and move forward because you’re a warrior.

Everyone’s boobs are uneven. If you have a lot of boobs, they might be way uneven.  Don’t stress. This is totally normal.

There are people who prefer large ladies. And I mean all sizes of large. I thought that my best bet in life was to find a partner who accepted my fat. Pause. Give me a minute to hang my head and shake it at myself. Not only are there people who adore “thick” women, but a LOT of them who prefer it. This eventually ends up in an interesting territory which Marianne talks about here, but the point that I’m trying to make goes back to the “despite vs because of” argument. Here is what you need to know: you do NOT need to settle for a lover who is “okay” with your body. You have the right (and millions of opportunities) to find someone who is infatuated with your body. You deserve to be worshiped, woman!

Fat chicks bang hot guys… ALL. THE. TIME.I know that hot is relative and all inclusive depending on who you chat with, but for these purposes, lets talk about the “universally attractive” kind of hot. Y’know, the kind fat chicks don’t deserve? We want to pretend that we don’t know what I’m talking about, but lets be real; we totally do. The fact that “fat chicks bang ‘hot’ guys” was one of the most powerful realizations I’ve had thus far. In line with the above paragraph, I knew that there would be someone that would find me attractive but the pool would be small (because of my body) and potentially full of guys I didn’t personally find sexy. So I would have to settle for anyone that would take me. After all, how could a conventionally gorgeous man (tall and with tattoos of course) like fat chicks?  Weh-he-hell, let me tell you somethin’: through various sites, events, parties, and corner store meetings, I found myself with over a hundred men who were champing at the bit to get with this. I was the one who had to sift through and pick the hottest of the hot. Ladies, over a hundred. “Girls” showed what society thinks about that when Hannah’s character has a weekend romance with an attractive and wealthy doctor. People flipped their shit. “Patrick Wilson is so hot he would never do Lena Dunham” was the most eye catching. Wilson’s wife responded to that rubbish here, but the tweet speaks volumes about what the majority of people think unconventional women deserve. Jesus christ, it’s annoying. I won’t spill the details of my bedroom coming and goings, but lets just say this: the hottest guys in Tucson and I get along just fine. I would recommend reading Emily’s article on xoJane for a better explanation of what I’m struggling to say. Know this: the myth that “atypical” bodies can’t be paired with “typically attractive” bodies is false. Women need to know that all bodies can be paired with all bodies.

Riding during sex will NOT collapse his insides. Just trust me on this one, what you fear is totally false. Here’s a great article that changed my life.

Wearing whatever you want is a political statement. Join the revolution. Throw style rules out the window. Wear the tutu. Wear the horizontal stripes. Wear the turquoise skinny jeans. Wear the see-through blouse. Wear the bikini. Wear the sweat pants. Wear the shirt that says “Does this shirt make me look fat?”. Wear whatever it is that makes you happy. This is your life.

You are fucking beautiful. I’m saying this with a straight face and seriously meaningful look where I maintain eye contact for an uncomfortable amount of time. I know you don’t feel like you fit into the category of gorgeous that our world creates. I know that its hard. I know that its a daily battle. But fuck their fascist beauty standards. The second you stop looking for a skinny model in your mirror and start looking at YOU… is the second you will start to appreciate what you are. Stop looking for flaws. Stop looking for differences. You are perfect. You are more than enough. You are the best thing that has ever happened to you. And you are fucking beautiful.

Say it with me.

I’m actively sobbing.

Grin and Bear It: Your First Trip to a Nudist Camp

There are a lot of misconceptions about what a nudist camp is really like, especially for someone going there for the first time. It’s not a colony. Those are for ants and bees. It’s not the Friday night, swinging singles bar scene either. It’s not a “meet” market. It’s not where people go to show off their naked body in front of others or where people go to check out and stare at naked people.  Honestly, a nudist camp or club is a place where people go to be naked. They go there to enjoy everyday camp activities naked. It’s that simple.

As you know, this blog is about answering questions couples have about social nudity and about what to expect in a nude or clothing optional setting. Often that first happens on vacation at a beach or resort in the Caribbean or some other warm vacation spot.  A nudist camp (although community is probably a better term) is a great place to try the nude experience too.

I believe one reason most people try nude recreation on vacation is because no one knows them. For that reason, I’m assuming most couples don’t try a nudist camp first because they are worried they will see someone they know. Believe it or not, privacy is a big part of the experience. My wife and I have been to four nudist camps throughout the Midwest in the past 20 years and we have never seen someone we knew. We’ll talk more about that later, but first let’s talk about what happens at a nudist camp.

Think back to when you were younger and went away to summer camp. You went camping and had campfires. You went swimming and boating. You had picnics and bar-b-q’s. You played games like basketball, tennis and volleyball. You probably took walks in the woods or went fishing.

Now imagine everything I just said, except this time, you’re not wearing any clothing and neither is anyone else around you. That’s the nudist camp experience. Everyone is have fun outdoor and not wearing anything. No one is embarrassed. The people here are nudists and they are doing this because they want to live part of their lives without clothes on, without people gawking or staring; without people making unwanted sexual advances; and without being judged by other who are not accepting of this decision.

So why is a nudist camp a good first experience for a couple considering recreational nudity? It’s about as safe an environment as you will ever be. It’s social but it’s private too. The first time my wife and I went to a nudist camp, we were surprised about how relaxing it was. Yes, we were anxious because everyone was naked and that did take a little getting used to, but our nudity didn’t stand out. We looked like everyone else. Think about it. Warm all over. No worries about offending anyone. No need to explain yourself to someone who doesn’t approve, and no fear of anyone taking pictures or hitting on you or your spouse.

You’ve seen your spouse naked probably thousands of times.  Now how often have you both been completely naked outside without a fear of being seen? Have you ever been naked with them outside while hiking in the woods, swimming, playing a sport or eating dinner? It’s different and while yes, it sounds odd at first, it’s very natural and not a sexual experience.

Here are some tips that you must know to make sure it’s a good experience for you and your spouse. First of all, you need to have this conversation before you ever go to a nudist camp.  Nudist camps are nude. They are usually coops owned by members who in some cases, live there. They are not clothing optional. They are nude unless the weather calls for clothing to stay warm or dry.  This isn’t like a clothing optional beach or resort where you bear as much as you dare.  Talk to your spouse prior to going to make sure you’re comfortable with the fact you will have to take off your clothing. Wear a swimsuit. Wear a thong. No entry.

Call the camp you would like to visit. Let them know you are coming out for the first time. Many camps offer a free visit for first timers. Ask them about what you should bring and get specific directions.  Many have privacy gates where you will need to be buzzed in. Know before you go. Also ask about any fees and expectations.

Bring your driver’s license or state issued ID. They will perform a background check on you when you enter. This is for their protection and for you when you arrive. Most nudist camps are family oriented. There are children there and privacy and protection for minors is the most important. No exceptions.

Most camps do not accept single men. Couples and single woman only. There is a lot of debate about this but it seems to be important to keep the balance of men and women equal. One more reason why this is a great activity for you and your spouse. You really can’t do it alone if you’re a guy.

Bring a towel to sit on. Cleanliness is very important so bring a towel at all times so you have something to sit on.  Also, bring sun protection. When parts of your body are exposed to the sun for the first time, it can leave an awful burn if you’re not protected.

Absolutely no cameras or cell phones because they all have cameras now. While you might want to take a picture of your spouse to remember the occasion, most clubs do not allow photography of any kind, unless you’re a member. Remember, you’re there for privacy too.

Remember you are being watched while you’re there. Privacy is very important and each club watches to make sure visitors are acting as adults. Often you will have to wear a special sticker or arm band. Nudist clubs are there to enjoy being nude. Not for staring a nude men and women. Go there for you and your spouse. Not to meet anyone or to find a date. It is not a sexual experience and absolutely no inappropriate comments or sexual touching is accepted.  This is one more reason why this is a positive and safe environment to try social nudity with your spouse.

Don’t get too personal. No one talks about where they live, work or even gives their last name. Please introduce yourself and be ready for others to say hello too. We have met many wonderful people at nudist clubs but there is always a level of privacy that is respected and maintained.

Perhaps the most difficult part of the experience is where to look when you’re talking to another naked person.  Don’t laugh but one of my funniest memories was on our honeymoon in Tahiti. Another couple from Italy had sat down beside my wife and I on the beach. While our spouses fell asleep next to us in the sun, this woman and I talked about the US and Italy. We were having a great conversation. During our discussion and while I had my eyes closed, she took off her bikini top.  My wife’s bikini top was still on at that point. When I opened my eyes and realized she was topless, I didn’t know what to do. Should I look away? Look around her? I finally made a point of talking right at her and staring right at her eyes. My eyes were glued to her eyes. To this day, I can’t tell you anything about her breast because I never once looked straight at them. I was incredibly nervous.

When you’re talking to another naked person (man or woman) look them straight in the eyes and talk. Don’t stare. Don’t point and certainly don’t say anything about their private parts. That’s rude. Before long, you won’t even notice they’re naked.

My wife and I visit a local nudist camp several times each summer. It’s a great getaway from our kids and jobs where we can enjoy time together to sit by the pool, swim and enjoy a picnic lunch together. As much as we’d like to go to some super, all-inclusive in Mexico or the Caribbean, we simply don’t have the time or money. Our trips to the nudist camp are special because it’s only 30 minutes away and it’s just us.

For the right couple, a nudist camp or club can be a great first step into social nudity. In the heat of the summer, I can’t think of a better place to cool off and enjoy the weather. Interested in trying it out? Better do it quickly. Many clubs in the Eastern US only allow guests between Memorial Day and Labor Day. After that, clubs are often closed and available just for members.

Before you go, do some research online. Today there is a lot of information about each club, what to expect, fees and rules. I even found a review site for Nudist clubs and resorts.

Do you have any questions or concerns? Let us know. We’re here to answer your questions and share with you our experiences so you and your spouse have a better experience.  Enjoy.

The Tata Top to cover the chest of GoTopless participants in Venice, CA on Aug 24

On August 24, Venice, CA will see its seventh annual GoTopless event in honor of Women’s Equality Day. In Venice as in most places around the world, women are still not able to lawfully go bare chested while their male counter part have had that privilege for decades.

More than ever, it is time to celebrate women’s topless pride in spite of the legal yet unconstitutional restrictions and the creators of the Tata Top Bikinis, Michelle Lytle and Robyn Graves have offered to provide breast look alike bikini tops for the event.

Lara Terstenjak, leader of GoTopless in Los Angeles explains that the Tata Tops are a perfect way to show how ridiculous the current law is. Women can publicly wear breasts painted bikini top but cannot show their own.

“Imagine if, in 1914, women had worn pants with knees painted on the pant legs. It is the same analogy since women’s knee were considered indecent back then” said Terstenjak, “it is just as ridiculous to wear a painted bare chest to hide one’s chest!”.

Of course, today, no one bats an eye at the sight of an uncovered woman’s knee and soon it will be the same for bare breasts.

The Venice GoTopless event will begin at 2PM on the beach near Boardwalk and Navy with a silent sit-in where the men will also be invited to wear a Tata Top to show their support for equal topless rights.

“Either we all can or no one can!” reminds Terstenjak.

The group will then joyfully make its way down the Boardwalk toward Windward Circle bringing awareness to the crowds about Gender Topless Equality and the importance of abolishing all gender discrimination for the sake of women’s self-esteem and their empowerment.

I read this article some months ago in la Vie au Soleil.

The context:

In France, one of THE biggest issues within the naturist community = textilisation.
Mainly in big resorts, people complain about illegal (regarding internal rules officially registered before the local government) tolerance to textilisation.

In France, there is no place for a clothing-optional mindset as in some places in the Anglo-Saxon countries.

People pay, sometimes expensive, to attend naturist places and don’t want to feel like animals observed by potential textile voyeurs.

It seems that big resorts tolerate this for $ reasons, which creates a niche market for resorts enforcing nudity rules.

The arguments of the article correspond to the reality here. Some people even created associations to lobby for respect of nudity in naturist resorts, which shows the deepness of the problem, which I’m too tired now to develop, it’s long.

Bare Oaks is kinda not small resort which tries to strictly comply with naturism.

In such a context, sarongs are a threat. If you were  in charge of a strict resort like Stéphane Deschênes is, you’d raise the same issues as he does and would try to overcome it instead of thinking about individual confort in spite of risks for the wellbeing of the community.

Go Topless: Women appeal to Trudeau, Mulcair

Women from the Raelian Church in Canada are calling on federal Liberal leader Justin Trudeau and NDP leader Thomas Mulcair to support support the campaign to give women — all women — the same rights men have to be topless in public. My first thought after I read the headline on their press release (which […]

Facebook strikes again! All Nudist has been blocked by facebook for an AANR article. Here’s what All Nudist had to say:

All-Nudist has been blocked for at least 24 hours by FB for posting a link to an article about AANR’s recent Legislative Conference information booth. Somehow, we suspect this injustice will not become a hot item in the news, as has happened with other, well-funded and publicized occurrences.
In the meantime, you know where to find us on FB (you should have ‘liked’ it long ago!) or you can go to our website: http://www.all-Nudist.com/

Naturism in the big city | The Naturist Page

I am saddened by your life experience as a naturist but alas I can relate and your laws are really not much different from our own.

Originally posted on The Naturist Page:

It’s not as easy to grow up being a Naturist in the big city of Montreal; especially when you don’t own a car to get around to all the good spots that are harder to get to without a car. Not to mention city officials ticketing you for being human.

Growing up in Montreal as a Naturist has been a juggle for me. always having to find some way and somewhere just to either skinny-dip, sunbathe, read a book or simply living in your own house clothes-free. their isn’t many places in the area of Montreal to secretly do these things when you are always worried someone sees you and wants to report you. I’ve done many things as such. I’ve found ways to get on to some roofs of apartment buildings and spend a few hours sunbathing and reading a book with a big jug of water and sunglasses…

Although this is a #Playboy photo, there is no reason #nudists can’t go skateboarding. And at the same time, there is no reason Playboy models cannot be nudists. For instance I’ve been nude on Playboy TV and auditioned with them many years ago and I’ve been a nudist since college. We’ve also had some Playboy models stay at Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs, CA.  MC

Has the nature of naturism changed?

In July, two articles published by the travel section of Independent Online (IOL) of South Africa possibly gave a confusing picture about naturism in Europe in general and Germany in particular. The first – Germany, it’s no longer for nudists – (14 July 2014) lamented that the country that brought us naturism in the late […]

Why are boobs sexual? Like if a girl walked around topless they would be arrested but if a guy does it, nobody even cares. They’re just lumps of fat attatched to the chest which we use to feed our babies with, what the hell is sexy about that. We don’t sexualise YOUR tits so leave ours alone.

Towels, Towels Everywhere! | The Naturist Page

Naturists have one of the golden rules when it comes to social nudity; either your at a club, resort, campgrounds or at a gathering with friends is to sit on a towel when you must. It is for sanitary reasons. With all the different types, sizes and choices out there, what one should you bring along with you the next time you are going out to a social gathering?

One towel that catches my interest if you like the larger beach size towels is made by Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park. their towel is a multifunctional towel. The towel can be bought at the Bare Boutique starting at $24.95.

  • Folds into a multifunctional beach bag
  • Terry Towelling finish
  • 213 cm (84″) long – 100% terry towel cotton
  • Top pocket slides securely over back of lounge chair
  • Three pockets either side
  • Separate iPod/MP3 player pocket with loops
  • Zippered storage pocket
  • Ties to secure to the lounge chair

This kind of towel is perfect for the beach or lounge chair if your going to lay on it and soak in the sun. However, if a big towel is too much for you, their are some other options. I went out and bought a bathroom towel and a matching colour face cloth and had sewed the facecloth in the corner of the towel and added a zipper.(You could also use Velcro instead.)

My final option is more if you know you will not be lounging or sunning. Simply use the same concept with a hand-towel. if you prefer not adding a pocket, that’s your choice to make if you do not plan to carry anything with you. however, if you want to be hands free of things and want a place to put them as you go bouts your day I would suggest a pocket.

The choices are endless. You can also use these Ideas to be creative and come up with your own Idea.. something unique to you! =)

GoTopless Pride Parade and other events around the world on Aug 24

LAS VEGAS, August 20 – The women’s rights organization GoTopless will hold Go Topless Pride Parades and other events in over 60 cities worldwide for its 7th annual GoTopless Day,August 24, according to a statement released today by GoTopless.

“Equal topless rights for women is a constitutional right,” said Rachel Jessee, New York City’s GoTopless leader. “The 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution specifies equal rights for everyone. That includes the right to expose body parts common to both genders, including the chest and nipples.”

The states of New York, Texas and North Carolina are a few states that already honor the Constitution but many cities in those states have passed unconstitutional ordinances to prevent women from going sans shirt.

GoTopless’s goal is “to eliminate the current double standard,” Jessee said. “If women can’t go topless, the only way to ensure equality is to make men cover their chests too, as spiritual leader Rael declared when he inspired GoTopless in 2007.”

Jessee pointed out that before 1936, people thought it indecent for men to go bare-chested in public.

“Women’s ankles, knees and belly buttons were taboo back then, but today nobody bats an eye,” Jessee said. “Why should showing breasts be different?”

She emphasized that GoTopless members don’t bare their breasts to attract attention.

“Showing female breasts should be a natural part of life, a non-event,” Jessee said. “The right to go topless is immensely empowering for women after centuries of living under macho laws and puritanical Judeo-Christian values.”

Living under such constraints is debilitating to a woman’s self-esteem and body image, Jessee said.

A Touch of Gray – Daring to Bare it All

Sometimes the world loses its colour and vitality.Sometimes the world loses its colour and vitality.

It’s been raining and cool, almost cold, and I have been sleeping well. Like many, I usually hide my emotions and adopt a calm, peaceful, gentle and caring attitude. It’s the Buddhist in me. But some days the masks don’t fit all that well and there is a shadow that washes over me exposing a pain behind my eyes that has nothing to do with a headache. It’s at times like this that I realise that there are many, many layers of the human psyche that rarely are made visible. And, as humans, we would just as rather that we never got see beneath the surface.

I am luck as I have made many journeys beneath the surface in quests to slay the dragons to be found, dragons such as dark and ferocious men and women (think here of Kali) that when confronted dissipate without protest. It was enough simply to stand there in front of these monsters and acknowledge their presence. Denying them only empowers them to rampage though the inner spaces unchecked, especially if we do our damnedest to stay are far away as possible from what lurks within our own psyche.

I guess that this could be the ultimate sense of baring it all – peel off not only the clothes, but the protective layers and barricades that hide the inner essence of self.
